This was in a time when I was playing plenty of mightily impressive HD games on my PS3, and yet Xenoblade managed to wow me more than most of its contemporaries with its astonishingly large, beautiful world to explore.

I could heap praise on the game's many standout qualities all day, but in summation the game was just a bigger, bolder realization of the classic JRPG template in 3D than anything else I had played up to that point. I was simply floored by its unique world, eye-popping sense of scale, grandeur, intriguing story, MMO-inspired combat, adventurous soundtrack, etc. Xenoblade Chronicles blew me away and birthed a new passion for the genre that persists within me to this day. After following Project Rainfall and seeing the rave reviews that Xenoblade was getting on Wii, I decided to take a chance on it.Īnd, well. This was a holdover from the fact that, as a kid, I loved watching friends play JRPG's but was a little too intimidated to give them a try myself due to their densely layered progression systems and immense length. I had discovered a newfound love of handheld JRPG's on my Nintendo DS a few years prior, but at that point I was still wary of console JRPG's for seeming a bit bloated and obtuse to me. So, back in 2010 I had only somewhat recently been dipping my toe into console JRPG's. While Radiant Dawn is a Contested Sequel, it became more well-loved over time in the same way (and for the same reasons as) its predecessor, thanks to Fire Emblem Awakening reviving the franchise, and Super Smash Bros., Fire Emblem Fates and Fire Emblem Heroes giving Ike and his companions more exposure to new fans. The gameplay still employs a turn-based strategy, and units can still permanently.
